AYLUS Pearland volunteers went to Ed White Elementary School on December 4, 2021, in order to teach students subjects including reading and math. The 3 volunteers taught 5th grade, and the students were split up into 3 different groups because of the large number of students that attended the event. One of the groups covered math, and the other two groups taught reading. Each group stayed with a volunteer for an hour, switching every hour in order to learn something different each time. Volunteers helped teachers teach the curriculum, and others taught students themselves in a small group. It was a great opportunity to allow students to engage in the material and prepare them for the upcoming test. The students actively answered and communicated with teachers and volunteers. The students learned and picked up new material or reviewed older material so they could get a better grasp of the curriculum. The volunteers worked 3 hours from 9:00 am to 12 pm plus 1 hour commute time.
The volunteers at the event were: Kang Zhang, Jonathan Niu, Matthew Niu
