Recently, there have been surprising amounts of rain in the Navajo area in Arizona, causing a huge loss of resources, and electricity. Wanting to help, the Phoenix Branch packed “Tender Mercies” protein packs this past Saturday. These nutrient-filled bags contain rice, beans, nuts, and soy tosupplement the loss of food. The volunteers worked hard to pack as many bags as they could in a sort of assembly line with 1 person at each of the ingredients, 1 person weighing the bags, and 2 people sealing, sorting, and packaging the bags.
To ensure the efficiency of the packaging process, the organizers meticulously prepared custom-made stations for each task. The rice and beans stations were equipped with large containers filled with these essential staples, allowing the volunteers to easily scoop the right amount into each bag. The nuts and soy stations displayed an assortment of these protein-rich ingredients, encouraging the volunteers to mix and match to create well-balanced packs. The weighing station featured a precise digital scale, ensuring accuracy in portion sizes, while the sealing and packaging area had a variety of bags and labels readily available. With the seamless flow of the custom made stations, the volunteers swiftly moved from one task to another, maximizing their productivity and making a significant impact on the relief efforts.
There were more volunteers this event than usual, so their impact is immense. Ryan Duan, Michael Duan, Alex Ji, Fedora Zhong, Wenting Chen, Lawrence Zhong, Yongfeng Chen, Ethan Wei, Katherine Wei, Audrey Zhang, Danyan Mei, Kevin Chen, Owen Lian, Jayden Liu, Tony Liu, Na Zhang, Kian Lu, Kaiya Lu, Jenny Dong, Jack Xie, Amy Xie, and Saba Shakir volunteered for 3 hours!
