On 8/3/2021, A member of the Syosset AYLUS branch (Aika Suizu) taught a sixty-minute Japanese class to multiple high school students, each with differing degrees of proficiency and familiarity with the Japanese language and culture. The establishment of this class seeks to permeate the interest and knowledge in Japanese culture and language throughout society.
Starting the class, students reviewed the Eight Japanese particles. Students grasped a strong understanding and basic grammar was also reinforced. Students reviewed them since particles are one of the most difficult and confusing aspects of Japanese grammar. We went over each Japanese particle and cleared any confusion about the Japanese particles. Students then made sentences using Japanese particles for comprehension.
Wa and Ga were the most difficult and confusing. But students were able to distinguish and comprehend the particles after.
A list of Vocabulary was presented, which included words like udon and teriyaki (common Japanese foods)
The main focus of the class was learning about action verbs in Japanese. Students repeated examples of action verbs listed such as うご く, かう, and たべる.
Lastly, Japanese present and past tense were presented as well as their usage. Several Examples were provided as well as a short clip about Japanese present and past tense
The following students volunteered in today’s tutoring program: Aika Suizu (1 hour)
