On April 4th, 2021, from 7:30 to 10:00 a group of AYLUS volunteers came together to plant around 70 native tree species to the trail at John Hargrove Environment Complex. The event was hosted by Keep Pearland Beautiful.
Around 34 AYLUS youth members worked alongside one of the staff members. Similar to the first Plant a Tree Day event for the same purpose, volunteers would move tree saplings to pre-dug holes, remove the saplings from their plastic container, adjust the hole’s depth with a little bit of mulch, place the sapling into the adjusted hole, then fill in the gaps with extra dirt and mulch. Some of the AYLUS members’ friends and siblings came to help as well. In total, the participant list included Sasha Kuzmento, Fred Guo, Raina Qiu, David Ding, Daniel Xi, Emma Xi, Karen Xu, Eric Gao, Ethan Gao, Edwin Gao, Matthew Li, Hannah Sang, Ashely Zhuang, Katlyn Zhuang, Aila Jiang, Erin Ireland, Richa Paliwal, Joshua Goldberg, Jacob Goldberg, Eric Qi, Thomas Liang, Kate Liu, Aaron Wu, Derek Ly, Derek Zhu, Junyan Chen, Zhaoyu Chen, Fiona Ren. Daniel Ren, Bohan Hu, Brayden Wu, Brason Wu, Janet Zhang, Ryan Yan, Jayson Babanto, and some others.
In all, the event was a community effort that included AYLUS members, youth AYLUS members, citizens of Pearland, and John Hargrove Environment Complex staff members.
