Towson Branch Member Kelly Chen hosted 4 Online Chemistry Classes in November. A new student joined this month for classes bringing the number of students in the class up to 9. Kelly is also trying out a new teaching tool called Jamboard, a collaborative whiteboard system, in order to better check the student’s work. The students have really enjoyed this and have said that the Jamboard helps them understand the concepts better.
Lesson 7 (November 6) covered hydrogen bonding and Lewis Dot Structures.
Lesson 8 (November 13) covered other intermolecular forces such as dipole-dipole and London Dispersion forces.
Lesson 9 (November 20) covered phase changes – solid, liquid, and gas – using a PhET simulation.
Lesson 10 (November 25) covered nomenclature rules for binary ionic compounds and binary covalent compounds.
Participants: Kelly Chen (3 hr/lesson for lessons 7-8 and 2.5 hr/lesson for lessons 9-10 . Total hours for November: 11 hrs.)
