On the morning of August 22, 2020, several AYLUS Pearland members volunteered alongside
members from other organizations at a food and PPE distribution event coordinated by Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Health Equity Response Task Force. The event took place at the Notre Dame Catholic Church from 8 AM to 12:30 PM.
At the start of the event, the volunteers were split into several small groups. Some volunteers
packaged PPE items, such as face masks, into bags, while other volunteers packed an assortment of food into boxes and bags. At 9 AM, the volunteers started to distribute the packaged PPE and food, helping load the packaged supplies into recipients’ cars. While distributing was ongoing, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner came to the event to support the distribution efforts. After over 4 hours of hard work, the volunteers effectively distributed items to over 1,200 recipients.
The volunteers that participated were: Andy Jiang, Andy Gu, Thomas Liang, Jayden Lu, Matthew Li, Mark Wong, Zian (Andy)Liang, Mihir Kalvakaalva, Ali Rehman, Michael Meng, Andy Fu, August Fan.
