On June 14, the Houston Branch held its 6th debate class in a series designed to help local children. Following a news quiz on current events, the focus turned to conflict in the South China Sea, a volatile geopolitical area. Students discussed the historical context of conflict in the region, recent expansionism from China, and the response of international institutions, such as the United Nations. For the debate portion of the class, students learned about refutation strategies, including both offensive and defensive responses. They then participated in drills, using example prompt to build their refutation skills.
