Sugar Land Branch Shares the Joy of Chinese Holidays with Local Community

It’s finally the time to celebrate the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival! While the Covid-19 pandemic lingers on, the AYLUS Sugar Land Branch launched its very first culture-related event of the year. In preparation of this noteworthy day, members of the Sugar Land Branch held several discussions through virtual meetings and stumbled across with the idea of sending some handmade incense bags in the shape of Zongzi, a traditional, symbolic rice dumpling people generally eat on this holiday, to the retirement home where they used to organize weekly performances. Members then met up in the park on June 17 and worked diligently for hours to finalize the gift. In total, members assembled 40 zongzi with additional uplifting notes attached in between.

On June 26, members met up at the retirement home to deliver the zongzi and to briefly explain the project’s motivation and backstory.

The participating members were Seth Gratz, Hunter Han, Tong Wang, Angela Wang, Serena Li, Amy Liu, Jonathan Xu, Nicole Wu, Isabella Wu, Emma Jiang, and Albon Wu.
