After wrapping up the STEAM Challenge Camp for the 2019-2020 school year, the Houston Branch launched a new educational program aimed at preparing young students to become engaged citizens and community leaders. The classes consist of two parts, one with a focus on current events and another geared towards Public Forum Debate. This program, officially the AYLUS Policy Camp, is currently on its sixth week and will likely continue through the rest of the summer and the upcoming school year. With a mix of video, readings, and discussion, students learn through a participatory and independent approach while their teacher serves largely as a guide.
Topics covered include:
- May 2: The World is Getting Better + Introduction to Public Forum Debate
- May 10: Stronger Together: The European Union + Basics of an Argument
- May 24: Behind Bars: America’s Twisted Prison System + Building a Constructive
- May 31: Venezuela in Crisis + Incorporating Evidence
- June 7: Bridges and Wall: America’s Immigration System + Flowing
