AYLUS Columbus Branch volunteers contributed to the success of the 2019 Asian Festival on May 25-26. The annual festival has been a premier attraction in Columbus since 1995, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Their overarching mission is to promote the importance of cultural diversity in building a vibrant, prosperous and healthy community.
The festival includes a myriad of activities such as cultural performances, face painting, health screening, food stalls offering traditional food, and stalls dedicated to each Asian country. This year AYLUS members participated in promoting Alzheimer’s awareness with the Alzheimer’s Association at a table located near the health screening event. Members Eileen Liang, Angela Zheng, Michelle Zong, Brenna Li, Catherine Harman, Andrea Yu, and Amy Xuan, and volunteered in shifts over the memorial day weekend. In addition, Aidan Li, Gavin Ni and Justin Wu helped sell water at food stands while others operated the face painting stands. The Alzheimer’s Association holds an annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s in more than 600 communities nationwide to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This year, in Columbus Ohio, the event is being held on September 22. AYLUS Columbus Branch plans to participate again in hopes of contributing to the community and supporting those in need of it.
