Reported By Andrew Peng

On September 15th, 2018, the AYLUS San Diego branch volunteered at the San Diego Food Bank in a mission to provide a meal for everyone, regardless of social standing. The Jacob and Cushman San Diego Food Bank and the North County Food Bank chapter comprise the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Last year, the Jacob and Cushman San Diego Food bank distributed 26 million pounds of food. On average, the Food Bank serves meals to 370,000 people monthly in San Diego County.  According to the Food Bank, about 80% of the work done in their warehouses comes from volunteer service. Without willing participants, the Food Bank could not hope to accomplish what it has done these past few years.

The students worked for two hours alongside 36 other participants to do the following:

  • Bagged and Sorted 9,000 pounds of potatoes and plums

The following volunteers participated: Jonathan Backues, Spencer Zhang, Wesley Zhang, and Emily Zhong.
