On July 28th, the San Diego Branch students were invited to Congressman Darrell Issa’s local office in Vista, CA to discuss STEM, education, and art. The Honorable Congressman Issa is a Republican from California’s 49th Congressional district and serves as the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee. He is a strong supporter of education, science, and technology. He is an advocate of equal opportunity for each student, based on merit. Mr. Issa was also CEO of Directed Electronics, a Vista, California-based manufacturer that he co-founded in 1982. It is currently one of the largest makers of automobile aftermarket security and convenience products in the US. Congressman Issa also told the students that in the portrait hang in his office, the artist also drew President Abraham Lincoln and President Ronald Reagan, since drew his inspiration from both President Lincoln and President Reagan. The AYLUS students were excited to be invited to meet Congressman Issa in his office even though Mr. Issa has an extremely busy schedule in this election year.
