Western Long Island Branch Hosts Local Long Island Cares Food Drive

On 11/21, the Western Long Island branch hosted the annual food drive at Long Island Cares, where its members donated spaghetti, Ramen Noodles, potatoes, canned vegetables, stuffing, cookies and other foods packed the boxes waiting to be delivered on Monday to hungry families.

“We wanted to do something for people in need, for working families in need.” says junior Ethan Cheung.

“We wanted to do something nice for people at Thanksgiving,” replies James Liu, “there has to be a way we could do more.”

“Long Island has around 285,000 Long Islanders who seek help from food pantries each year-half of which are children; we need to fix this issue,” states Aric Zhuang

Not only did the team contribute various items, but they also inspired local people to help around as well.

“I didn’t know that there was an active food drive”, quotes one local woman from the local town of New Hyde Park, “next time I’ll drop off some goods as well.”

The food drive was a huge success – over a three hundred non perishable items were donated to the local Long Island Cares foundation, putting us one step closer to reducing hunger.

A huge thanks to Aric Zhuang, Ethan Cheung, James Liu, Ryan Liu, Jon Jiang, Michael Sun, Justin Cheng, and Anthony Blanco for contributing to their community.
